Big news…

It’s been a while since my last post here, but I think I have a pretty good reason for my absence.

I got a job!!!!

Now that it’s all official, I am thrilled to announce that I will be joining the Communications & Marketing team at the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Those of you who know my family know that we already have lots of ties to U.Va. — my older sister is an alumna, and my maternal grandfather is a graduate of the medical school. He loved U.Va. so much, we even planted a tree on grounds in his memory. So while I’ll always be a Tar Heel first and foremost, rooting for the Cavaliers won’t be too difficult! (And we conveniently have plenty of U.Va. paraphernalia lying around for photo props.)

But while I’m excited about U.Va. in general, I’m most excited about joining the Curry School of Education team. Being able to support education is a huge part of what drew me to higher ed in the first place, and it was clear from my interview process that this is an incredibly talented, intelligent, and energetic group of people who are passionate about the work they’re doing. I can’t wait to help tell their stories.

Plus, Chris and I really looking forward to exploring Charlottesville (especially all those trails, vineyards, and dog parks) and giving up the nomadic lifestyle for a while. 😉 While we’ll no longer be living the really small-town life, we think Cville will be a great place for us—all the city amenities we need (Trader Joe’s), plus a great base for exploring Shenandoah National Park and the surrounding blue ridge mountains, which will always feel like home to us.

So that’s the big life update! Before I get back to attempting to pack up our belongings that are scattered across many different houses and storage units, I have to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has given us advice, recommendations, encouragement, ideas, connections, and general support throughout this transition. We are incredibly grateful for and forever indebted to our community.

Between interviews, travel, apartment hunting, wedding dress shopping, etc. etc. … life has been a whirlwind lately, but I promise I will be back to regularly scheduled programming soon. And in the meantime, if you have any moving tips or suggestions for things to explore in Charlottesville, please leave them in the comments!
